Attended by 100 guests in different phases of their hair journey, The Cape Town Naturally Masterclass was well received and an eyeopener for many.
For the first session, ANiM Naturals owner, Akosua Koranteng discussed the history of African hair care, different scalp conditions, and various ways to keep your hair healthy with seasoned Trichologist Elma Titus. Elma specializes in the diagnoses and treatment of hair fall, hair breakage, hair thinning, and scalp conditions.
Following on from this, natural hair ambassador and hairstylist, Candice Fielding, known to the natural hair community as “Boskop”, offered the crowd advice on Winter hair care. During the Q & A session the question about the Brazilian came up to which Candice wittily responded ” We are in South Africa, we don’t do Brazilians’, rather ask for a South African“
In between sessions, guests were then treated to a coffee break and had the opportunity to shop and interact with six different vendors which included ANiM Naturals, My Natural Hair, NatOrga, Afro Pride, Areté of Hair and Lavish Atelier.
The third speaker, Brian Warfield is a very well known hairstylist in the natural hair community. Having worked the hair industry for over 30 years, it was only apt that Brian’s topic was a subject most naturalistas know all too well – “Why we return natural: The impact of natural hair on the perception of self”. His talk left the crowd hanging on his every word, many even shed a tear reflecting on their own natural hair journeys. Brian imparted a simple yet profound message – your hair is your crown, wear it proudly.
To end off the day, Precious Kyriakides, a hair industry stalwart of over 20 years tackled the topic “Doing the right thing – Healthy Hair;” drawing from her experience of her salon, African Hair Kingdom, and her hair care brand, Afro Pride.
Just before the final farewell, which was followed by a delicious two-course lunch, Team Cape Town Naturally announced the date and venue for the Cape Town Naturally Hair Fest 2018 – 16 December at The CTICC ( Cape Town International Convention Centre). The team went on to stun each guest in attendance with one standard ticket to the festival.
